Kindle the Power
What is Kindle the Power . . .There has never been a more critical time to disciple women to become powerful influences for God.
Kindle the Power is a discipleship initiative of Church of God International Women’s Discipleship to bring focus to our Christian walk of faith.
Today’s women are attending church services and small groups less. They are reading their Bibles less. They are viewing faith as less important in their lives. Further, since 1991, women are less and less likely to hold traditional views of God and Satan.
These alarming findings of a study by the Barna Group, as reported by The Christian Post, point to the critical need for the church to be more intentional and more effective in its ministry to women. Women’s Discipleship exists to help local leaders reverse these trends.
Army of Powerful Women . . .There is a new urgency today to usher women to the Lord, to help them be firmly grounded in doctrine and Scripture, and to enable them to know and explain the reason for their hope. Women must know God in a very personal, real way. Only in a relationship with God through Christ are we forgiven and washed clean; only in Him are we empowered for right living; only in Him do we have the sure hope of heaven. Only an intimate relationship with the Lord will keep women anchored in an increasingly amoral culture.
Women’s Discipleship is confronting the issues that women are facing today by providing Kindle the Power resources, training and study opportunities that will focus on character and integrity in life choices, values and unique spiritual gifts through discipleship awareness. Kindle means to start (a fire) burning; to stir up or arouse; to cause to glow or illuminate!
Our goal is to raise up an army of powerful, more-than-conquering confident women.
Empowered Women Who . . .
know Christ; know who we are in Christ; grow as leaders and mentors who disciple others; put our faith into action by giving of our talents, time and money; are the salt of the earth, the light of the world; know that we are valued in God’s Kingdom; are accountable to one another in covenant by uniting and sharing in small group communities with women of like passions and interest; strengthen our families; are God’s hands in the world.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the end of the age (Matthew 28:19 NIV).
But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing (2 Corinthians 2:14-15, NASB). The acrostic P-O-W-E-R captures the essential elements for Kindle the Power.
P O W E R
Prayer and Praise
With confidence, boldness and expectancy we can approach the throne of God because He knows and desires what is best for us. God desires intimacy with us. And if we are truthful, we DESIRE that intimacy with Him. Power comes through our prayer—prayer that can move mountains.
Power involves reaching out through missions and into our communities.
In a recent survey conducted by LifeWay Research for the International Executive Committee and the Church of God, the data collected from pastors surveyed noted:
• 17% of the females in their churches were personally involved in Outreach; and
• 16% of the females in their congregations served people in the community not affiliated with the church.
We believe these numbers can (and should) be increased.
Since the beginning, women of the Church of God have been champions for the weak and warriors for the helpless. Women with a Mission (WWAM) helps to connect women so that we can accomplish more together than we ever could apart. Since its inception in 1977, Church of God women have been uniting together to raise monies for missions and have contributed approximately $6,747,271.00. What an accomplishment! (Thank you for continuing to give selflessly to others in need.)
Outreach takes on many forms. There is no cookie cutter way of “doing” community outreach. Jesus’ ministry was all about reaching out and touching people where they were. Be ready. When we ask God to open doors of ministry opportunities in our community we are touching His heart! What He calls us to do He will enable us to accomplish.
Word of God
We are encouraging women to take an intimate look at God’s Word and to fall in love with it all over again. God’s Word directs and empowers our spiritual journey. It is a living, breathing part of every life and awakens our spirit causing us to approach it with a fervor that we haven’t felt in years.
Power that effects change in our lives and in the lives ot others through spiritual accountability and covenant. Accountability leads to discipleship. Christ did not ask us to walk alone in our Christian journey. Helping each other to walk in the victory Christ offers only makes us stronger and offers the protection of spiritual accountability and covenant. Covenant says, I pray for you, I hold you up, and when you stumble I am there to pull you back up. Together we will walk in victory and taste the sweetness and goodness of God.
Relational and Repentance
Kindle the Power encourages women to build relationships outside their church walls that will challenge, encourage and connect, and help them to make a conscious effort to “share their faith story.”
Repentance has amazing benefits. Repentance wipes away our sin and refreshes us. Repentance clarifies our Christian walk. Repentance requires introspection and submission—looking at our actions and thoughts through God’s eyes and placing our will on God’s altar.
